OUR STORY

Meet Our Founders

Not only are they sisters, but they are two different people going through different walks of life.

Alex is a working mom, and she also holds her MBA. She has a fantastic career as an accountant, but it took her an undergrad degree in teaching that she ended up not using and many years of hopping from job to job to get to where she is today. Like any young mom, she had to make many sacrifices to make sure that she could raise and provide for her son. From the time she got pregnant, Alex found therapy as she wanted to prepare after hearing about postpartum depression, which she did end up going through. What she learned on her journey with therapy is that journaling was an outlet that helped her get back in the right mindset. With her experiences, she wants to make sure mothers and women, in general, have an outlet and a safe space to release any emotions that they feel are not heard.

Donica is a black, queer Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LCPC-S). She also has a fantastic career; however, her path in life is very different from her sisters. Although she does not have any kids, she has been on her journey of finding her true identity in a world where being a part of the LGBTQ community is now accepted and individuals do not have to hide who they truly are. Donica found therapy in a different way than Alex, whereas instead of being on the couch, she is in the chair listening to her patients and helping them through every situation you can imagine. As a therapist, she also recommends her patients to journal as it is an outlet for them to proactively search within themselves and find their own solutions, which is a skill most do not think they have.

Bringing both worlds together, Alex and Donica created Embracing Your Destiny so that women and men could use the tool of journaling to embrace their true selves. By reflecting and working through the motions, individuals can use this self-care tool to get through any journey they are going through. These journals target heartbreak, self-love, self-discovery, and more. Embracing Your Destiny is about being the best you that you can be and accepting who you are and where you want to go. Tomorrow is promised to no one, and today should be lived with no regret nor hate on our hearts. So join our EYB family and get on your road to healing.
